• (5) Ensure the establishment of a diverse and long-lasting
vegetative cover:
The site will continue to be prepared to provide the best opportunity for
the selected plant species to become established. Following is what will
be implemented and is typically recommended by local NRCS Field
Offices:
The seedbed will be well settled and firm, but friable enough the seed can
be drilled at the recommended depth. Soils having been compacted by
traffic or other equipment will be tilled (deep-chiseled or ripped if
necessary) breaking up restrictive or compacted layers, and then harrowed
and rolled or packed to produce the required firm seedbed. If the seed is_
to be broadcast seeded, then the seedbed will be settled and fairly firm, but
left rough enough to catch the seed and allow some coverage by soil when
tracked in by equipment or harrowed and packed into the soil surface.
Seedbed preparation will be avoided when the soil is wet to prevent
seedbed compaction. Planting depth will be less than one inch. Drill row
spacing will be approximately 8 inches.
(6) Methods of weed control:
The existing mining permit has a Noxious Weed Management Control
Program.
(7) Fire lanes and access roads:
It will not be necessary to construct fire lanes. Access roads used for
mining operations will be adequate for site reclamation. In addition,
access roads may be left for the post mining use. A letter from the
landowner will be provided prior to final site reclamation requesting that
access roads remain as part of the post mining land use.
(8) Delays to the revegetation process on selected areas:
It is understood by the Operator/Applicant, planting required for
reclamation may be delayed, through the period of use related to places of
refuse disposal, haul roads and road cuts. All applicable industry
stabilization standards for such areas will be used. The
Operator/Applicant is aware no planting is required on these areas, as
follows:
0
23
