PERMIT #: M-1983-050
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: December 8, 2010
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection for an active 110c sand and gravel operation conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS
for the Phillips County Jensen Pit - State Land site. Although this site was not originally scheduled for inspection at this
time, DRMS was very near to the site during inspections of several Sedgwick County sites and noted that the Jensen Pit
was also due for a routine monitoring inspection. DRMS therefore toured the site with Sedgwick County representative
Randy Renquist at approximately 1130 as he was present for the other scheduled Sedgwick County inspections.
The required permit identification sign was missing. It was assumed that the existing fenceline marked the south and east
permit boundary, and the county road ROW serves as the west permit boundary, but no northern permit boundary markers
were able to be located. These items should be replaced and photos documenting the new items should be submitted to
DRMS by the corrective action due date.
The site appears to be used very infrequently based on the vegetation present on the material stockpiled near the entrance,
however, no other issues were observed during this inspection, and the mine appeared to be in compliance at the time of
the inspection. This site should be observed next spring to determine if weed control measures are required.
GENERAL INSPECTION TOPICS
The following list identifies the environmental and permit parameters inspected and gives a categorical evaluation of each
RECORDS----------------------------------- NA (FN) FINANCIAL WARRANTY-------- NA (RD) ROADS------------------ Y
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE------------- Y (BG) BACKFILL & GRADING---------- Y (EX) EXPLOSIVES--------- NA
PROCESSING WASTE/TAILING---- NA (SF) PROCESSING FACILITIES------- NA (TS) TOPSOIL---------------- Y
GENL MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE- Y (FW) FISH & WILDLIFE----------------- Y (RV) REVEGETATION---- Y
SIGNS AND MARKERS----------------- PB (SP) STORM WATER MGT PLAN---- NA (SB) COMPLETE INSP---- NA
OVERBURDEN/DEV.
