Pineda
Director
Determination of Drainage Area of
Triple Culvert in East Collection Ditch
From: Tom Kaldenbach f"r--
Beginning with the DRMS inspection of March 25, 2009, several DRMS inspection
reports have noted the lack of positive drainage at the inlet end of the triple culvert in the
East Collection Ditch. Inspection reports since that time have noted that additional
permit boundary markers are needed in the area of these culverts. Markers would enable
an inspector to determine the location of the triple culvert relative to the coal permit
boundary and the sand and gravel permit boundary.
The operator installed a permit boundary marker on October 6, 2010 near the inlet end of
the triple culvert. The marker appears to be located at the sharp turn in the permit
boundary at that location. Although impounded water at the inlet end of the triple
culvert appears to be in the sand and gravel permit area, at least 40% of the drainage area
that reports to the culvert inlet area is in the coal permit area (see attached sketch map).
cc: Dan Hernandez
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver - Grand Junction - Durango Active and Inactive Mines
