• Field Trial Details. Field trial locations are given in Map 1 (sheet 2) of the Trapper Mine
Annual report document. The field plots are embodied in the F-AB-00 reclaimed parcel.
On the map the specific field trials as described below begin with 1 at the south end of
the reclaimed parcel and are numbered progressively northward. The seed mixtures
referenced below can be found in the CSU Shrub Establishment Study: Final Technical
Progress Report that is on file at the Division office.
1. 6 inches (15 cm) of live-haul topsoil over spoil with strip seeding. The strip
seeding included a strip of native shrubs and native low-competitive forbs that
alternated with a strip of native grasses, forbs, and shrubs. The seed mixtures for
this treatment are presented in Tables 1 and 2.
2. 20 inches (46 cm) of live-haul topsoil over spoil, strip seeded as described in No.
1 above.
3. 6 inches (15 cm) of live haul topsoil over spoil and seeded with native shrubs and
low-competitive native forbs. Surface manipulations included to enhance soil
moisture conditions. The seed mixture for this treatment is presented in Table 1.
4. Non-topsoiled spoil seeded with relatively unpalatable native shrubs, low-
competitive native forbs, and low-competitive native grasses. See Table 3 for the
seed mixture used in this treatment.
• 5. Non-topsoiled spoil, strip seeded as described in No. 1 above.
6. This treatment consists of the current reclamation approach. Topsoil depth and
seed mixture represent the approach carried out for reclamation in 2000.
Monitoring was conducted each year from 2001 through 2004 by CSU and results were
provided each of those years. A final project report will be completed in June 2005. The
final report will detail the shrub establishment results by treatment method and provide a
detailed summary of suggested reclamation methods for promoting shrub establishment.
In the interest of determining long-term results, Trapper and DMG intend to continue
monitoring the plots at regular intervals. Trapper will continue to maintain the field trial
sites until such time as it is felt the field plots can no longer provide meaningful
information.
•
4-125
RPIVIS!Gn:
A O __
APPROVED MAY 2 7 2005
