• Also, because of the proximity to the mining operation, reclamation of the drill sites where mining is
imminent would be of no benefit and could not be achieved prior to mining because the area would be
redisturbed before vegetation could be established. Therefore, reclamation of these sites will not be
attempted until after the area has been mined and the ongoing reclamation operations are conducted for
the entire area.
3.3.2.2 Drill Sites-in Areas Where Topsoil Has Been Salvaged
Development drilling sites within the areas where topsoil has been salvaged in advance of mining activities
will not require special considerations for road construction or topsoil removal. These holes will be sealed
however, in accordance with Figure 3.3.1A or 3.3.1 B if they enter an aquifer. In all other instances, the top
of the holes will be plugged with drill cuttings. These sites will be reclaimed after mining as a part of the
normal reclamation work.
3.3.2.3 Areas not to be Drilled Within the Permit Boundary
To protect unleased federal coal resources within the permit boundary, development drilling will not be
conducted in these areas. An exploration permit will be obtained prior to drilling these areas. The areas
• that apply are:
a) No drilling below the "Q" coal seam under Lease C-25948,
b) No drilling in TSN, R91 W, 6th PM; Section 1, Lots 17,18,19.
c) No drilling in T6N, R90W, 6th PM, Section 30, Lots 15,16,17,18.
3.3.2.4 Suitable Materials for Abandoned Drill Holes
Suitable materials for drill hole abandonment in non-aquifer strata include cement, concrete, bentonite
products (quick gel, shur gel, or other appropriate bentonite chips, pellets, grouts or slurries), cuttings or
other appropriate materials. Suitable materials for drill hole abandonment in aquifers are cement or
concrete, or bentonite products if hole conditions are suitable for use of the product according to
manufacturer recommendations.
3-27

AP., :-
A,ppjr;,OVED NOV p"'I9'a
