PERMIT #: M-1994-113
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: RCO
INSPECTION DATE: November 3, 2010
marked in a visible and durable manner, and that onsite equipment operators are aware of these markers.
(TS) Topsoil:
Narrative: The topsoil for the affected area has been stockpiled on the SE side of the pit, but it has been allowed to
become infested with Canada thistle. This is a state-listed noxious weed that the operator is required to control. Not
controlling noxious weeds on a topsoil pile will allow the weeds to spread, especially when the topsoil is redistributed on
the site during reclamation.
This was noted as a problem in the Division's last inspection report (2005), but the operator has apparently done little to
effectively control the infestation. The visual berm also has Canada thistle and some musk thistle on it. Please see the
problem description and the corrective action. The weed control plan that is now required must include monitoring and
treatments that are aggressive enough to ensure that the weed is controlled.
FOR ALL QUESTIONS OR FOLLOW-UP RESPONSES TO THIS REPORT, PLEASE CONTACT THE INSPECTOR
AT THE DIVISION'S DURANGO FIELD OFFICE: 691 CR 233, ROOM A-2, DURANGO, CO 81301.
PHOTOGRAPHS
(Attached after addresses, below.)
GENERAL INSPECTION TOPICS
The following list identifies the environmental and permit parameters inspected and gives a categorical evaluation of each
(AR) RECORDS------------------------------- NA (FN) FINANCIAL WARRANTY-------- Y (RD) ROADS---------------- Y
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE------------ Y (BG) BACKFILL & GRADING---------- N (EX) EXPLOSIVES--------- NA
PROCESSING WASTE/TAILING---- NA (SF) PROCESSING FACILITIES------- NA (TS) TOPSOIL-------------- PB
GENL MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE- NA (FW) FISH & WILDLIFE---------------- NA (RV) REVEGETATION---- N
SIGNS AND MARKERS--------------- Y (SP) STORM WATER MGT PLAN---- N (SB) COMPLETE INSP---- NA
OVERBURDEN/DEV.
