amecO
D) Soil Liner Fill
1) VLF
Soil liner fill (SLF) placement continued in the areas shown on Figure 2. Subgrade was
approved and moisturized prior to placement using a tandem-axel water truck. Placement was
performed using various CAT dozers in a one-foot compacted lift. Moisture conditioning of
SLF material was performed using a tandem-axel water truck and compaction was achieved
using a 10-ton vibratory smooth drum compactor. Nuclear density testing, moisture
verification, and depth checks produced results within project specifications. Test locations
were surveyed by Ames.
E) High Volume Solution Collection System
1) High Volume Solution Collection Piping
Placement of the high volume collection system continued at the DCF placement area shown
on Figures 5a and 5b, advancing in front of the placement. CPeP was placed and sandbagged in
accordance with design drawings and project specifications.
2) Drain Cover Fill (DCF)
Drain cover fill (DCF) placement within the Phase 5 VLF continued. DCF was placed in the
area show on Figures 5a and 5b. The DCF was hauled from the processing area to the
placement area using CAT 740 haul trucks. The DCF was placed in a 2-foot lift using various
CAT dozers except where haul routes were established. Haul routes consisted of five-foot lifts
to be spread into 2-foot lifts later. Laborers were present at all times during placement holding
the high volume collection piping in place, removing debris/sandbags, and assisting the dozer
operator with lift thickness. All DCF was placed on previously approved primary
geomembrane. AMEC field representatives monitored the DCF placement constantly. DCF
placement within the PSSA is complete.
3) Ore Placement
Loading of the Phase 5 PSSA continued using a CAT D-9 LGP dozer. Twenty feet of cover
was then verified, by survey, prior to mine haul trucks crossing over the geomembrane. The
toes of the ramp were surveyed ensuring twenty feet of cover, in haul areas, during placement.
An AMEC field representative was present during ore placement both day and night shift.
F) Leak Detection System
1) VLF
A portion of the leak detection system was installed between stations K2+00 (+/-) to K7+00
(+/-) approximately 100 left of centerline. The 1'x1' trench was excavated using a CAT 312
excavator. 40mi1 HDPE geomembrane and 12oz/ftz geotextile were placed in the trench.
Three-inch CPe pipe was then placed over the geotextile. Approved leak detection fill (LDF)
was placed in the trench using a CAT 950 front-end loader and laborers. The geotextile was
wrapped and overlapped, encapsulating the LDF and 3" CPe pipe. SLF material was then
placed over the trench. Leak detection trench construction was observed and inspected by an
AMEC field representative and found to be constructed in accordance with design drawing and
project specifications.
VLF Weekly Report WE 11.06.10.
