Permit #: M-1977-443
Inspector's Initials: DMC
Inspection Date: 11/9/2010
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted by the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS), as a follow up to a
September 14, 2010 DRMS inspection, in order to determine whether or not land outside the approved affected area
had been disturbed by the operation. Pat Weber, of Hardrock Sand and Gravel, was present during this inspection.
Figures are included at the end of this report to illustrate some of the conditions observed during this inspection.
The Moon Pit No. 2 is located approximately twelve miles west of Craig, and accessed from CR15. The site is a sand and
gravel operation permitted for a maximum disturbance of 5.0 acres.
During this inspection, GPS points were recorded around the south and southwest pit perimeter in order to determine
the extent, if any, of mining that has occurred outside the approved affected area. Staff estimates that approximately
4.5 acres have been disturbed, in addition to and outside of the approved 5 acre permit area. This has been noted as a
possible violation in this report. At the time of this inspection, affected area boundary markers were still not in place, as
requested in a September, 2006 Inspection Report and again in a September, 2010 Inspection Report.
An adequate mine identification sign was observed at the mine site entrance during this inspection.
The fuel tank lacking secondary containment, noted during the September, 2010 Inspection had been removed prior to
this inspection.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Dustin Czapla at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number
(970) 243-6299.
