. United. States Soil
Department of Conservation
Agriculture Service
Frank Morgan
Nucla, CO. 81424
C•
Dear Frank:
December 26, 1985
Enclosed is a copy of the soils maps which cover your farm ground
in the Nucla /Naturita area. After our visit in my office I looked
through your Conservation Plan folder but still could not find
soils information on some of the - property. The enclosed maps
cover the area of ownershp:shbwn on the Conservation Plan maps.
Also enclosed are copies of the soils map unit descriptions.
You and I discussed the area East of Highway 97, between the gravel
pit and the Hilltop Grocery. I discussed this area also with the
soil scientist, Bill Hawn, and he" concurs that the ridge which has
the shack on it is very apt to be the best soil to farm on the place.
As we discussed it does not lay well with regards to irrigating.
The legend below will tie the soil mapping units to their name and
description:
UNIT NUMBER / NAME
30C Progresso loam
53 Pinon- Bowdish -Rock outcrop complex
70B Barx fine sandy loam
70C 14 ,!
74D Pinon- Progresso loam
74E Pinon - Torriorthents complex
76B Vananda silty clay
76C !t N
76 D 21 ,.
78C Bodot silty clay loam
78D
82B Abra loam
82C
82D
84C Clapper loam
202 Clapper- Torriorthents complex
808 Ustolls, wet
900 Rock outcrop - Torriorthents complex
* *Note: generally speaking, the B indicates 1 to 3 percent slope,
C indicates 3 to 6 percent and D indicates 6 to 12 percent.
Sincerel
Jack Warren
District Conservationist
The Soil Conservation Service
is an agency of the
United States Department of Agriculture
*U.S. Government Printing Office: 1993- 420 - 939/1575
