West Taylor Pond Riser Pipe Leak Repair Report
The purpose of this report is to provide the Colorado Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety (Division) a full account of the measures taken to remedy the
leak that was discovered at West Taylor sediment pond during an inspection on
August 18, 2010, and which was subsequently noted in the Notice of Violation
(NOV) issued by the Division and received by Colowyo on August 25, 2010.
Colowyo, using the procedure that is attached to this report, isolated the small
leak to a connection in the riser pipe. A steel collar placed around the corrugated
steel riser pipe had shifted and therefore was not watertight around the
connection. Using the procedure that was submitted to the Division in the NOV
Mitigation Plan, Colowyo was able to seal the collar and create a watertight seal
around the riser pipe connection. This procedure is also attached to this report
for reference. The pond was then inspected by Division inspector, Jim Stark, and
it was confirmed that the leak was fixed. Below are photos taken by Colowyo of
West Taylor flume after the leak was fixed. The photos (taken October 6, 2010)
detail that the pond is functioning properly and that there is no active discharge
from the pond at a time when the water has not reached the primary discharge
point (the water in the flume is from a recent rainstorm).
Flume at West Taylor Pond
Water Level at West Taylor Pond
