d) Wildlife
No significant amount of wildlife has been encountered during any of the
visits to the site. Normal species appearing at the site could be pronghorn
antelope, black-tailed jackrabbit, white-tailed jackrabbit, desert cottontail,
northern bobwhite, western meadowlark, numerous species of sparrows,
swallows, and other songbirds, shorebirds, raptors, mink, swift fox, striped
skunk, opossum, and bats. Other species could be the ring-necked pheasant,
wild turkey, great horned owls, mule deer, white-tailed deer, badgers, and
coyotes. There are no known threatened or endangered species.
EXHIBIT C - Mining Plan
a) The mining has been ongoing since the original permit was issued in 1982 and
will continue as material is needed in that area of the county. Since the pit is
only used on a limited basis, the life of the pit is indefinite. The material is
utilized for road building by the Kit Carson Road and Bridge Department.
b) The mining plan has been to remove material on the east side, beginning in
the creek bed and moving north and south as suitable material is found.
Mining will move westward in the creek area, again moving north and south
as suitable material is found. Excavation will continue as the need for
material continues and, as the supply remains available. There is currently no
topsoil in the creek bed itself. There is topsoil in the areas outside the creek
bed which is 04" in depth. The area lying outside of the creek bed will have
the topsoil stripped and stockpiled for re-application during reclamation. The
bank along the creek will also be stripped and stockpiled for later use in re-
vegetation. Any topsoil stockpile will be seeded with brome grass to prevent
soil erosion.
c) There would appear to be no waste rock or material at the site.
d) Mining is anticipated to a depth of 10 feet inside the creek bed and up to 20,
depth in the area outside the creek. The mining plan is to begin at the east end
of the pit and proceed west. No slopes will be left greater than 3:1.
e) The pit will be accessed from Co. Rd. NN. There will be no shop, plant, or
other facilities located at the mine site. The equipment used to mine the
gravel will be a front-end loader, dozer, and trucks. Some stockpiling of
material may be done at the site, but most of the material will be utilized as it
is mined. Any stockpiling that does occur will be placed in line with the
drainage flow line that runs through the area and along the south edge of the
