New limestone
aggregates plant
in the city of
Chihuahua
The Mexico Division concluded the project that will allow replacing the fuel used in the
cement plants in Mexico and the project of the new limestone aggregates production plant in
the city of Chihuahua. We also increased the concrete-block production capacity with two new
plants in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua, which allows the company to maintain its leadership
position in the concrete-block market. Overall, investments made by the Mexico Division totaled
US$45.6 million.
The United States Division invested US$9.9 million in various projects. One of the most
significant consisted in the upgrading of the cement production equipment and expanding
storage capacity at the Rapid City, South Dakota plant. To improve the infrastructure of the
GCC Dacotah supply chain, we acquired land to build a cement distribution terminal in
Denver, Colorado.
In accordance with GCC's philosophy of continuous improvement and optimization of
processes to reduce production costs, we concluded the project to replace the type of fuel used
in the cement production process at the Samalayuca plant. This will allow us to raise our operat-
ing margins, and to reduce the exposure to price fluctuations on natural gas and fuel oil. We
expect to conclude the project at the Chihuahua plant during the first half of 2002.
