This reflects GCC's philosophy and commitment
to safety.
Because of Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua's constant program to
promote the use of ready-mix concrete in the construction industry, in
both private and public works projects, the Group's ready-mix concrete
sales volumes in Mexico rose 3.2% during 2001. In comparison, the con-
struction industry activity fell 4.5%.
In 2001, concrete-block sales reached a record high of 26.4 million
pieces. This figure was obtained due to the startup of operations of
the new plants in the cities of Juarez and Chihuahua during the se-
cond half of the year. With these new plants, production capacity of
concrete blocks grew 92% in the year, which allowed us to increase
our market share and maintain our leadership position. GCC revenue
from concrete-block sales grew 44.5% in 2001.
As a result of GCC's strategic growth in the aggregates market, we
increased our production capacity at the Chihuahua and Ciudad Juarez
plants. Sales volume increased by 6.0% in 2001, reaching a record high
of 3.7 million metric tons, and sales revenue grew 7%.
