(chronic)
Applicable WQ Standard for Arkansas River 500 NA 10.5 0.1
200
CDPHE 2002/EPA 2002a . chronic
The TDS concentration measured at Vineland in 1988 exceeded the secondary drinking water
standard of 500 mg/L, although this value is generally not in excess of tolerance limits for most
agricultural crops or livestock. The nitrite and nitrate concentration was 1.70 mg/L, but only one
sample was taken so no water quality conclusions can be drawn from this sample. TDS and
specific conductance values measured at Moffat and Avondale support information discussed
previously, that TDS and specific conductance levels increase as the Arkansas River flows east of
Pueblo. NO2-NO3 values did not exceed the standard at any location reviewed.
Ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) concentration was not available for the Saint Charles River and did
meet the standard set for the Arkansas River. Fecal coliform levels exceeded the standard for
segment 7 of the Lower Arkansas River at Avondale, but were in compliance with the standard at
the Moffat Street gaging station. Fecal coliform levels were not sampled at the Vineland gaging
station.
