Whetstone <br />Associates <br />Technical Memorandum <br />Generic piping, pump, and electrical requirements are as follows: <br />• Piping <br />0 2-inch poly pipe from each sump <br />¦ Dedicated piping to water treatment plant <br />¦ Flow meter, flow control valve, and sample port located in WTP building <br />o Buried water line exits sump 48" below grade <br />¦ Below frost depth <br />o Sump covered with concrete blanket or constructed cover to prevent freezing <br />¦ Cover also inhibits sunlight and algal growth <br />• Pump Specifications <br />o Submersible <br />o Horsepower based on flow rate & total dynamic head (TDH) <br />o Select for best efficiency point (BEP) on flow/TDH pump curve <br />o TDH calculated from pipe friction loss, minor losses, expected drawdown and <br />elevation head <br />o Pump is specific for each sump location, TDH, flow rate <br />• Pump Controls <br />o Run permissive system controlled by WTP <br />¦ High surge tank level disallows pumping <br />o Liquid Level Switches <br />¦ On/off based on 20-inch (+/-) span between high/low water levels in sump <br />o Pump Protection Device (Water Savr@ or other brand) prevents excessive pump <br />cycling <br />¦ Set minimum restart time <br />• Electrical and control panel <br />o To be determined based on pump HP <br />o Breakout boxes for potential future sump locations <br />4108C.101001 3
