STATE OF COLORADO
Bill Ritter, Jr., Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DIVISION OF WILDLIFE
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
Thomas E. A site visit on Thursday, June 3, 2010
confirmed that the proposed expansion site is located in shortgrass prairie rangeland and is surrounded
by agricultural fields.
Overall, wildlife usage of the current gravel pit and the proposed expansion site appears to be normal
and since the proposed site does not appear to be comprised of vital breeding, nesting, or migration areas
it is expected that the impacts to wildlife from the proposed expansion will be minimal. No threatened
or endangered species were found on the site.
Before a release from reclamation would be considered, best management practices including the
grading of severe slopes and reseeding in native grasses to prevent erosion should be completed
throughout the entire mining site.
Respectfully,
Tom Kroening
Area Wildlife Manager/Area 3
Colorado Division of Wildlife
122 E.
