DRMS's IML program had reclamation
work done on the site in April 1990. DRMS reduced annual inspection frequency for this site to one
complete inspection and three partial inspections in 2007.
The disturbed area consists of a portal face-up area for an underground mine that was eventually was not
developed. A two-track dirt road crosses the site that leads to a state wildlife area. The Division of
Wildlife and others maintain the road.
The Division has issued a proposed decision to terminate its regulatory jurisdiction over the Arness-
McGriffin site and the public comment period has not yet expired. The Division conducted a surety
release/termination of jurisdiction inspection in May 2010.
The site was dry during this inspection. No changes were found on the site, compared to the previous
DRMS inspection a few weeks earlier. No problems were found on the site.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
As observed during this inspection and previous inspections, the following characteristics of the Arness-McGriffin
site support a finding to approve final surety release and termination of DRMS jurisdiction: topography that
blends with the surrounding topography, positive site drainage, vegetation that locally provides long-term
erosional stability and that supports a postmining land use of wildlife habitat.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 2 of 4
