Scott, Environmental Protection Specialist
CC: Division 1 Office, District 64 Water Commissioner
FROM: loana Comaniciu, P.E.
RE: Caliche School Pit, File No. M-1989-023 (AM02)
Operator: Clyde and Marie Couch
Contact: Randy Schafer, (970) 854-3778
Section 29, Twp 10 North, Rng 50 West, P.M., Logan County
CONDITIONS FOR APPROVAL
® The proposed operation does not anticipate exposing groundwater. Therefore, exposure of
ground water must not occur during or after mining operations. The purpose of this
amendment is to increase the existing DMRS permit the size from 5.4 acre pit up to 9.5 acres.
Thus, the total acreage in the permit area will be 9.5 acres.
® The applicant has not identified any proposed use of water at the permit site. If water will be
used for any purpose at this site, the applicant will need to document that the water was
obtained from a legal source, or the use of the water was approved by the Ground Water
Commission for such industrial use.
COMMENTS: If stormwater runoff is intercepted by this operation and is not diverted or captured in
priority, it must be released to the stream system within 72 hours. This may require a discharge
permit from CDPHE-WQCD. Otherwise, the operator will need to make replacements for
evaporation.
The applicant may contact the State Engineer's Office with any questions.

O Y !.';31

Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303-866-3581 • Fax: 303-866-3589
www.wa ter.state. co.u s
