Law Office Of
CHARLES E. BUTLER
512 N. Main St., Ste. H
Pueblo, CO 81003
RECEIVED
MAY 0 1 2002
Division of Minerals and Geology
Phone. (719)544-0044
a
April 30, 2002
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80202
Re: Reclamation Permit application submitted by the Rio Grande Portland Cement Company.
To Whom It May Concern:
I am a resident of Pueblo County and am writing to comment on the Reclamation Permit
application submitted by the Rio Grande Portland Cement Company.
I hereby request that I be allowed to make a presentation opposing the issuance of a permit at the
public hearing and any other hearings to be scheduled on the permit application submitted by the
Rio Grande Portland Cement Company.
I also request that there be a 120 day period to make comments befoe the public hearing is set,
since this is a matter involving a substantial excavation over many lifetimes creating major
changes to the landscape using strip mining with substantial amount of deep ground explosions.
No one can readily and exactly determine the final damage to the environs and the nearby living
populations.
Further, further request that any decision not to hold the the public hearing in Pueblo be
reconsidered. Pueblo is where the most of the witnesses reside and the place closest and will be
subjected to most of impact of what is being proposed..
Some of the the issues I desire to address are: the surface and ground water usage and
contamination and the potential effects of the air pollution on the public health and environment.
Sincerely,
6"?
