Jay Mead
1723 Alexander Circle
Pueblo, CO 81001
719-544-3660
May 1, 2002
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80202
1r
RECEIVED
MAY 0 2 2002
Division of Minerals and Geology
Y , L
Re: Testimony to be presented at Public Hearing objecting to Application fpr on Reclamation
permit submitted by the Rio Grande Portland Cement Company.
To Whom It May Concern:
I am a resident of Pueblo County and am writing to be allowed to testify at any hearings to be
scheduled regarding the permit application of Rio Grande Portland Cement Company..
I hereby request that I be allowed to testify opposing the issuance of said permit based on the
present form of permit application submitted by the Rio Grande Portland Cement Company.
As a chemistry teacher I want to give evidence regarding the proposed extraction process which
utilizes the explosives of ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel. The chemical reaction when using
these explosives will probably cause various environmental damages including the pollution of
ground water and other consequential hazardous contamination.
Sincerely,
Jay Mead
