X <br />II. RESOURCE DESCRIPTION <br />5. Resource Type: Road Railroad Ditch/Canal Trail <br />Other (specify): Telephone Line <br />6. Resource Description: Two-strand telephone line that served the Blake Ranch. There are some <br />original poles that are spiral-grained pine - 5-6 " diameter. Newer poles are straight-gained, some are <br />treated creosote soaked) and have a diameter of 10-12". One new pole had a 1988 date. The poles all <br />have clear glass insulators. These are attached with drilled and screwed dowels for some and other have <br />cross bar with dowel (some also have metal straps to help keep the dowels and cross bars in place). <br />Every other section of line has metal spacers/separators on the lines to keep them from touching. Pole <br />height varies but is an average of - 15'. See attached page with Historic Backgound on phone <br />service for rural users. <br />7. Original use: Communication <br />Current use: Abandoned <br />8. Modifications (describe): Some poles have been replaced as recent as 1988. The line has glass <br />insulators and the support mechanisms for the insulators vary from original equipment to more recent <br />equipment <br />9. Extent of Resource: There is 2820'm of the line in the project area. Line continues outside of <br />project area to the northwest and to the southeast. <br />10.
