PERMIT #: M-2000-034
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: October 8, 2010
OBSERVATIONS
This was an acreage reduction inspection for the Loveland Pit, a 112c sand and gravel permit operated by
Lafarge aggregates and concrete, conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS. DRMS visited the site with Anne Best-
Johnson and several other representatives of Lafarge. The property owner of the "Reichert phase" was also
present for part of the on-site inspection. On August 20, 2010 Lafarge requested the release of two separate
areas of this permit. The first area, AR03, is the 17.8 acre remaining portion of the permit east of St Louis Ave
known as the "Reichert Phase". The second area, AR04, is a 4.22 acre area on the northeast side of the permit
area west of St Louis Ave (Flatiron property).
The current approved post-mining land use for the site is wildlife habitat. The AR04 area was the first area
inspected and has been reseeded to a grass field. The grass has established well, appeared to be largely weed
free, and recently mowed. All the Russian olive trees that were previously present in this area along the
Lakeshore had also been removed. DRMS received a letter from the property owners supporting the release
request for this portion of the permit area. DRMS concurs that reclamation has been completed and this 4.22
acre area will be released from the active permit.
The AR03 area or "Reichert Phase" consists of the 17.8 acre permitted area remaining east of St. Louis Ave.
This area has been backfilled, reseeded to grassland, and shrubs have been planted as stated in the reclamation
plan. A TR has been submitted to support the current property conditions and approved by DRMS. The
property has recently been reseeded and all the Russian olive trees (and there were many at the time of the last
inspection) have been removed from the permit area. The property owner was present at the time of the
inspection, and supports the release of the property from the permit at this time. DRMS concurs and will
approve the release of this 17.8 acre area as well. The remaining permitted area for M2000-034 will be located
west of St. Louis Ave.
The remainder of the permit area west of St Louis Ave appears to have been inactive for some time. Lafarge
should determine if this site needs to be put into temporary cessation status in accordance with rule 1.13 to
avoid a possible future violation. No other issues of note were observed during this inspection. Lafarge should
update the permit boundary on all maps and figures to the new configuration resulting from these releases, and
make sure the new permit boundary remains clearly marked.
Inspection Contact Address
Anne Best Johnson
Lafarge West, Inc.
1400 W. 64th Ave.
Denver, CO 80221
