(Snowcap) for the 2010
CMA Excellence in Reclamation Award for permitting and implementation of an alternative land
use reclamation plan. Snowcap's alternative land use reclamation plan for the Unit Train Loadout
Area allowed for the retention and future use of the 9000+ feet of rail spur, the existing reclaim
tunnel for storage, two concrete foundations to build a construction field office and storage
building and the existing roads. It also allowed for construction of a new bridge over Coal Creek,
new access road, construction of a multimillion dollar sand plant, additional railroad sidings, barite
storage facility and new individual septic disposal system (ISDS).
The Unit Train Loadout Building, Overland Conveyor structures and 40,000 gal Water Tank have
been dismantled and removed. Ponds 1 and 2 and the sewage lagoons have all been reclaimed.
Remaining coal and coal remnants were hauled to Snowcap's refuse disposal area.
The new land owner, Halliburton Energy Services, has completed construction of the new
facilities and are now using the site to service the western oil and gas fields.
In summary, the project resulted in successful clean up and reclamation of a former mining
loadout site, and allowed for retention of various existing facilities to facilitate an
industrial/commercial postmining land use. Photos of the project are included on the following
pages.
Sincerely,
Tonya K.
