Ventilation System <br />The main mine ventilation system consists of two fans. The two fans are a Buffalo Forge, Model 28 -16, and a <br />Jeffrey, Model 8HUA96. They are located as shown on Map 24, Surface Facilities. <br />The bleeder ventilation system was first developed with the Fish Creek Ventilation Borehole. The system then <br />utilized the Southwest Ventilation Borehole until the completion of the Western Mining District. The Eastern <br />Mining District utilizes the EMD Ventilation Shafts for both bleeder exhaust and bleeder intake. These ventilation <br />systems are described in detail below. <br />For the development of the EMD, the number 7 North Escape Shaft was installed for emergency evacuation <br />purposes and is currently utilized as a supplemental intake airsource. <br />A heating system has been installed at the portal entry. The system will circulate antifreeze through the troughs on <br />either side of the slope. This will prevent water from freezing on the slope which, in turn, will alleviate ice <br />buildup. <br />Buffalo Forge <br />The Buffalo Forge is a 110" diameter vane axial fan that has the capacity to exhaust approximately 700,000 cubic <br />feet per minute from the mine. The prime mover is a 1,250 hp motor. <br />The Buffalo Forge fan is tied into the existing structure of the rock slope bulkhead via duct work. The fan is tied <br />into this duct work and the motor is offset from this system. The fan, motor, and duct work are supported on <br />concrete footers and pads which underlie all the structures. The electrical building, housing the motor and <br />• controller, is on a 30' x 30' by 2' pad requiring approximately 67 yards of concrete. The motor is on a concrete <br />pedestal 5' x 4' x 4' and contains approximately 3 yards of concrete. The fan is mounted on a concrete pad 15' x <br />30' x 2' with a pedestal 2' x 8' x 5' totalling approximately 33 yards. The outlet evase is connected to the fan via <br />a 90 degree transition duct with both being supported on the same concrete pad as the fan. <br />0 Entry Ventilation Shaft <br />A ventilation shaft was constructed into the 0 entry, and is approximately 100 feet deep with a finished inside <br />diameter of 16 feet. A fan and control building was placed adjacent to the shaft. The location of the shaft, fan and <br />building is shown on Map 24. The fan is a Jeffrey, Model 8HUA96, which is a 96" diameter vane axial fan that <br />has the capacity to exhaust approximately 900,000 cubic feet per minute from the mine. The prime mover is a <br />1,000 hp motor. <br />Prior to constructing the shaft a pad area was developed by excavating approximately 16,000 CY of material from <br />the site. Of this amount there is a limited amount of plant growth media which was placed on the topsoil stockpile <br />adjacent to the site. It was estimated that less than 50 CY of plant growth material is at the site. The presence of <br />vegetation dictated if the material was salvaged and placed on the topsoil stockpile. The excavated material was <br />placed in the adjacent equipment storage area and was utilized in the grading associated with the proposed <br />preparation plant facility. The final grade of the slopes is between 21-1: IV and 3H:1 V. The existing road into the <br />equipment storage area is used to access the site. <br />The shaft was constructed by drilling a pilot hole into the mine and then reaming it out to a diameter of 48 inches. <br />The initial drilling required installation of mud pits. The area is located within Twentymile Coal Company's <br />. existing sediment control system. After the pilot hole was bored the cuttings from the reaming process fell into the <br />mine entry and were hauled away by the underground mobile equipment.
