f ,
Revegetation studies including sampling and reports were conducted in
accordance with the approved reclamation plan during previous years of operation and
the expansion of the refuse pile. The studies/reports were done by IME of Yampa,
Colorado under the supervision of Kent Crofts. As stated above, the areas on the refuse
pile contemporaneously reclaimed throughout operations are numbered 1 through 8 as
shown on Map 1. Various dates of the vegetation monitoring reports are listed below.
Area Number Date Area Seeded Report Date Seeded/Area Studied
1 1981-83 1987 1983
2 1987 1988 '81-487
3 1992 1989 `87
4 1992 1991 ' 83-487
5 1995 1997 '83-'87-`92
6 1999 1999 `92
7 2001
8 2003
2006 2003
The studies confirm the progressive stages of revegetation which ultimately reach
the current level of success. The most recent study to date is the 2006 interim
revegetation study which evaluated the final seeding areas (Areas no. 8) seeded in 2003.
The report, "Revegetation Monitoring Report for Reclaimed Areas Sampled in 2006 on
the Southfield Mine" is on file with the Division.
In addition to the seeding of grasses, forbs & shrubs, tree & shrub seedlings were
transplanted (April, 2004) on the Refuse Pile. Six plots (shrub clumps) are located on the
Refuse Pile and are shown on Map 1. The shrub clumps on the pile are listed as: 1 A; 2A;
2B; 2C; _2D & 2E. Species of the trees & shrubs planted on the Refuse Pile are:
Ponderosa Pine; Rocky Mtn Juniper & Skunkbush Sumac.
EFCI is requesting Peak Project Management of Trinidad, Colorado to inspect the
Refuse Pile (waste bank) addressing the criteria required for termination of the waste
bank quarterly inspections. We understand that the inspection report requires the
certification of their representative P.E.
If you have any questions or need additional information please contact me.
Sincerely,
eorge V Patterson
Gen Mine Mgr
Sauth/ield'WasteHank 7ermaln0l •111 0,r Ltr Termatn Reqst
