(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1997-035
INSPECTION DATE: 21 Sept 2010 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: DR?
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine inspection conducted by David Bird of DRMS. The Operator was contacted but did not attend
the inspection. The site is located about 20 miles southwest of Hartsel, and just south of Elevenmile Reservoir
near the intersection of County Roads 59 and 890. The commodity of interest is sand and gravel. The site was
not active at the time of the inspection, but there was equipment on site at the adjacent Chaparral Pit, another Park
County site, and there was evidence of fairly recent activity. The total permit area is 9.9 acres, and the post-
mining land use is described as rangeland. No bond is held as the operator is a government entity. The site
shares a common boundary with the Chaparral Pit.
It was difficult to determine the boundary between the two permits, but no problems were observed. All highwall
slopes are at about 3:1, there were no erosional problems noted, and no adverse impacts to the hydrologic
balance. The topsoil stockpile appears a bit small for the site so upon closure some topsoil might have to be
imported.
An appropriate sign is posted at the mine entrance, and the permit boundaries are adequately marked.
The operator had recently inquired about notification required for the use of explosives at the Chaparral sites.
Since the use of explosives is not currently part of the mine plan, this will have to be noticed as a Technical
Revision in accordance with Construction Materials Rule 1.9 for the permitted on which the activity will occur.
The operator also must meet the requirements of Rule 6.5(4), by providing an appropriate engineering analysis to
demonstrate that off-site areas will not be adversely affected by blasting.
I & E Contact Address cc: r CE
F BLM
NAME: David Kintz r USFS
OPERATOR: Park County F HW
F HMWMD
STREET: P.O.
