C- 1981 -008
2010 Temporary Seeding
15- Sep -2010
Triticale) in lieu of winter wheat for the seed. Use of Quickguard would be acceptable if WFC
first submits an application for a minor revision to the permit, incorporating this alternate into
Seed Mix #2. Please remember that any non - sterile annual crop must be disked or mowed next
year prior to grain maturation next spring, in preparation for permanent seeding of dryland
pasture mix and irrigated pasture mix, as appropriate. Seed Mix #2 seeding rate (70# PLS per
acre) does not specify whether the basis is drill seeding or broadcast seeding. The rate listed
would be relatively high for a cover crop drill rate. We recommend drill seeding at half the
listed rate (35 #PLS). Broadcast seeding should only be done in areas that cannot be accessed
with the drill seeder.
Topsoil that has been previously redistributed on the Morgan property is anticipated to remain in
its current condition for longer than one year. In this case, Seed Mix #3 is the appropriate mix to
use. Please note that the seeding rates listed in the approved permit are for broadcasting the
seed; if drill seeded, the rates should be halved. Just prior to placing final topsoil on these areas,
the site will need to be disked up to eliminate the existing vegetation stand. The final layer of
topsoil would then be applied, and the site subjected to the sequence of soil preparation and
seeding activities as required for the prime farmland cropland.
Please contact me with any additional questions you may have regarding temporary seeding at
the New Horizon Mine.
Sincerely,
r J 1
rQ 'JJ
Marcia L.
