INSPECTION REPORT`. <br />Site: National King Coal Mine, GCC Energy, Hesperus, Colorado a r? r <br />Inspected By: Don R. May P.E Project Engineer <br />Inspection Date: Quarterly Inspection Sept 19, 2010 <br />Ponds: Photograph 1 shows the west pond. Both ponds appear to operating properly. <br />The inlets, outlets and embankments of both ponds were inspected and appear in good <br />condition. Both ponds should be checked and excess sediment removed. <br />Drainage Ditches: Photograph 2 shows the rock lined drainage channel that takes <br />water from the top of the waste pile to the ditch on the access road. Figure 3 shows an <br />area where flow from the rock channel (photograph 2) apparently leaves the channel <br />and is causing an erosion gulley next to the channel. This should be addressed. The <br />other ditches adjacent to the refuse pile are in good condition. Routine maintenance <br />should be periodically carried out to ensure that the entrances to all pipes are free of <br />debris. <br />Drainage in and around the upper and lower yards is working well and both are in good <br />shape. Except where noted, all drainage features have been constructed and are <br />operating as stated in the drainage plan submitted to the Division of Minerals and <br />Geology. <br />Coal Waste Pile: Photograph 4 shows fill material that has been dumped at the bottom <br />of the waste pile in the area where the Jersey barriers were previously located. The toe <br />of the pile is critical to its long term stability. The final grade and compaction standards <br />of fill should conform to the design plans. <br />In general the waste rock refuse pile is in good condition. The upper portion of the <br />waste pile (above the road) appears stable. Photo 5 shows top of the refuse pile where <br />waste material has been stockpiled. This should be spread maintaining the design cross <br />slope towards the drainage ditch on the far side of this area. The drainage ditch shown <br />in photograph 6 is in good condition. <br />Except for the items mentioned above the fill on the waste pile has been constructed as <br />specified in the design approved by the Division of Minerals and Geology.
