ERICH 9tAl1BER P.E. <br />J ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENONNEERINC SERVICES <br />• S ATEGICA LY PM110MT lL•C11N1CAMY L'RUMED <br />A representative sample was collected from mine rock stockpiled at the bench near Mayday #1 <br />portal to characterize to evaluate the extent to which the sulfidic material and metals may leach <br />to the environment. <br />1.0 Mine Rock Sampling and Analyses <br />1.1 Sampling <br />A mine rock pile consisting of various materials derived from the Mayday #1 Portal was located <br />approximately 10 feet west of the mine portal entrance. The location and layout of the pile are <br />shown in Plate 1. The mine rock pile was of approximate dimensions 25 feet long by 13 feet <br />wide. The peak of the pile was approximately 8 feet high, forming a rectangular conical <br />structure. The volume of mine material was estimated at approximately 150 cubic feet. <br />One - gallon bucket samples were collected at five locations as shown in Plate 1. A composite <br />sample was prepared by placing the samples onto plastic sheeting and thoroughly mixing (Plate <br />2). The subset of the composite sample was placed in a 5- gallon bucket and transported under <br />chain of custody to Green Analytical Laboratories in Durango, Colorado for analysis. <br />0 1.2 Analysis <br />The composite sample was analyzed as follows: <br />a Whole Rock Analysis: A representative sub - sample was ground to approximately -400 <br />mesh and analyzed by standard x -ray fluorescence (XRF) procedure for 31 major, minor <br />and trace elements listed in Table 1. <br />• Acid -Base Accounting: A representative sample was ground to -2% mesh and analyzed <br />for pH (1:1 rock:deionised water extract), Total Sulfur (high- temperature furnace <br />combustion) an CaCO3 (digestion with hot acid, titration with NaOH). Acid Potential <br />was calculated by multiplying Total Sulfur x 31.25 (Sobek et. al., 1978) and <br />Neutralization Potential calculated from the amount of acid that was neutralized. Acid - <br />Base Potential is calculated from subtracting Acid Potential from Neutralization <br />Potential. <br />• Synthetic Precipitate Leachate Procedure (SPLP): A representative sample was ground <br />to -2 %Z mesh and analyzed in accordance with SW -846 Method 1312 ( USEPA, 2007). <br />The Leachate was analyzed for metals and trace metals utilizing USEPA Methods 200.7 <br />(Inductively Coupled Plasma - Atomic Emission Spectrometry) and 200.8 (Inductively <br />Coupled Plasma — Mass Spectrometry).
