...m. R21NCORPORATED L GrORGE RO>irrory
• 1. ERICH RAUQER PE
DIVIRONMENTAL AND E NGI.\EERING SERVICES
• SPRAT LGICALLY KKU)M D-ILCMICALLY [REPARE6
Rule 6.4.20.11(b) requires the collection of 5 consecutive quarterly sampling events. At the time
of this report, two quarters of data have been collected:
• First Quarterly Event: May 19 -20, 2010 (2 Quarter, 2010);
• Second Quarterly Event: August 8, 2010 (3 Quarter, 2010).
1.0 Description of Surface Water Bodies and Sampling Locations
Five locations have been designated for the collection of surface water samples as shown on
Figure 1. At each location the following was undertaken:
Measurement of streamflow using a Flow Probe FP101 Meter. The average water
velocity was measured for 30 seconds as various points within the stream cross sections
as described below for each location;
Measurement of water quality field parameters using a YSI Multiparameter 556 meter
calibrated prior to field activities; and
Collection of surface water samples directly from the streams. Samples for dissolved
metal parameters were filtered in the field with a 45- micron filter.
• 1.1 La Plata River
The La Plata River heads in the La Plata Mountains north of the Permit Areas and flows in a
southerly direction until it joins the San Juan at the western edge of the city of Farmington, New
Mexico. Two sample locations were selected (Figure 1):
• SW -1 up- stream of the Idaho Mine permit area; and
• SW -2 down- stream of the Idaho and Mayday permit areas, below the junction with Little
Deadwood Gulch draining the Mayday Mine permit areas and below the wetlands
constructed from historical tailings on the western banks of the La Plata River.
Flow readings were collected across the river channel at a minimum of three locations. Flow
readings were collected at approximately 60% of the water depth at each location. Field
parameters (Table 1) indicate that the water is aerobic and circumneutral pH with low dissolved
salts.
1.2 Deadwood Gulch
Little Deadwood Gulch heads to the east of the Mayday Mine permit area and flows in a
westerly direction to junction with the La Plata River. The stream flows through both the
Mayday No.1 and Mayday No. 2 Permit Area. Two sample locations were selected:
0 "Stmtegicalfy Positioned — Technically Prepared"
9034 E Faster PI Suite 201, Centennial, Colorado 80112, p: (303) 832 -7664, f (303) 832 -7469
