May Day Idaho Mine Complex 112 (d) Permit Application
0 (b) Narrative Description
(i) Designated Chemical Handling
Chemicals will be handled and stored in accordance with MSDS criteria.
Specifically for this operation, this includes the following:
• All materials will be transported to their designated storage location via
vehicle and unloaded by hand;
• Storage locations will be locked and secured at all times;
• Wildcat personnel will be trained appropriately in the proper storage and
use of site specific chemicals during the milling operation;
• Chemicals used in the milling operation will be opened and used within
the mill only; and
• Small volumes of designated chemicals (<5 gallon/Ift) will be handled
at any given time.
Chemicals consumed in the milling process will be disposed as tailings within the
underground workings of the Mayday No. 1 operations as discussed in
Section6.4.20(19).
(ii) Toxic and/or Acid-Forming Material Handling
Available data on the mine rock indicates that it is neither toxic nor acid-forming
. (Section 6.4.20.14). Additionally, all material handling will occur underground
and disposed within a dry stope. Further testing will be done within the mill
optimization phase to confirm that the stope is suitable for the disposal of
tailings.
(iii) Off-site Impact Prevention
The following measures will be taken to prevent off-site impacts:
• Use of designated chemicals occurs approximately 1.0 mile inside permit
boundary;
• Only small quantities of designated chemicals (as defined by EPA) are
used at any given time;
• Spill prevention measures include bermed storage areas and paved floors
within storage and processing areas;
• Distance to water courses, and depth to groundwater (Section 6.4.20(8))
allow for immediate containment during spill response of small volumes
minimizing exposure risk through off-site migration to these receptors;
• Monitoring programs will be implemented (Section 6.4.20(7)) at the
initiation of the milling phase.
r?
U
May Day Idaho Mine Complex 112(d) Permit Application
September 21, 2010
5
