May Day Idaho Mine Complex 112 (d) Permit Application
4. Phase 4 - Exploration
The planned exploration program includes the drilling of eleven boreholes and the
construction of associated exploration roads, which are depicted on Figure C -4. Six -inch
diameter boreholes will be drilled, one at a time, to a maximum depth of 1,000 feet.
Depending on drilling technique selected, it is anticipated that the size of the drill pad
will be 100' x 100'. Drill pads and roads will be constructed with appropriate stormwater
BMPs implemented (Exhibit T, Section 6.4.20.10.b). All boreholes will be abandoned
and permanently plugged according to the Colorado State Engineer and the DRMS
requirements specified in 5.4.2. Drill pads will be reclaimed as per the Reclamation Plan
(Exhibit E). Roads will remain as permanent structures.
5. Phase 5 .- Production Expansion
Based on the results of the exploration phase, the total operational area may be expanded.
Depending on the design of the expansion, either a Technical Revision or an Amendment
will be submitted to the DRMS for review and approval.
6. Phase 6 - Milling Completion and Closure
At the end of the life of the mine, all remaining ore will be completely milled and tailings
disposed of in accordance with the approved Reclamation Plan (Exhibit E) and Division
requirements. Closure of the mine will include demolition of non - historic buildings and
structures and removal of all salvageable material from the permit area. All non-
salvageable material will be buried in place or in the adits and stopes as defined in the
Reclamation Plan or removed from the permit area. Reclamation will be conducted as
detailed in the Reclamation Plan.
6.4.4(b) Earthmoving
Based on the proposed Mine Plan, the following earthmoving activities will be
undertaken at the site (in proposed order of operation):
• Cut and fill activities associated with construction and stabilization of the Access
Road;
• Removal of collapse material from the May Day No. 1 portal and stockpiled at the
May Day No. 2 bench;
• Expansion of the May Day No. 2 bench for overburden and mined rock storage;
• Grading and installation of stormwater structures on the existing access roads and
operational benches;
• Construction of an augmentation pond at the Idaho Operational Area, including the
associated pipelines;
• Consolidation of ore - bearing mine rock from stockpiles at the Idaho, May Day No. 2
and :Lamb Operational Areas to the May Day No. 1 stope;
• Reclamation activities at the May Day No. 2 and Chief Tunnel; and
• Construction of exploration access roads and drilling pads.
•
May Day Idaho Mine Complex 112(d) Permit Application
September 21, 2010
5
