Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan
The proposed post-mining land use for this portion of the 124th Estates Sand and Gravel
Mine is water storage. The resulting reservoir will be located adjacent to the Fulton
Ditch and less than one half mile southeast of the South Platte River.
The water storage reservoir will be reclaimed with slopes of no less than 3 to 1. The soil-
bentonite slurry wall, constructed before significant mining takes place, and the
compacted clay liner will be constructed to conform to the State Engineer's design and
performance standards for liners and slurry walls.
Materials Handling
As mining nears completion in Area 1 and begins in Area 2, the Operator will begin to
backfill with overburden and settled fines to create reclaimed slopes of 3 to 1. Claystone
substrate will be ripped from the floor of the mining area and used to complete
backfilling and to construct a compacted clay liner on top of the slurry wall, as shown by
the Reclamation Plan Map
Final Grades
As shown by the Reclamation Plan Map, all lopes will be reclaimed to 3 to 1. Slopes
below the top of the slurry wall will be backfilled using overburden, fines from washing
operations, and/or claystone material ripped from bedrock. The Applicant estimates that
approximately 110,000 yards of material will be needed for backfill below the top of the
slurry wall. All areas backfilled above the slurry wall will be backfilled using claystone
ripped from bedrock (approximately 30,000 yards, total), creating minimum slopes of 3
to 1.
Topsoil Handling
"Topsoil, stripped and stockpiled when mining is initiated, will be seeded with a
temporary cover for protection from disturbances associated with mining and from wind
and water erosion and compaction.
During reclamation steps, topsoil will be applied to disturbed areas that will not be
permanently covered with water. Disturbed area, above the reservoir's anticipated water
level, is expected to be approximately 3.2 acres, and will include the shoreline, the twenty
foot bench surrounding the reservoir, and the area of the haul road that connected the two
mining areas covered by permit No. M-2001-085. No more than 3,000 yards of topsoil
will be required to complete reclamation. Excess topsoil will be transported off site.
Revegetation
All surface areas, outside of the water storage reservoir, disturbed by mining activities
will be ripped to loosen compacted soils and disced to breakup clods.
