The application is for exploration <br />drilling of about 2,200 acres of federal coal that underlies BLM and USFS surface (see Figure 1 <br />for location map). The need for the application is to allow Bowie to obtain additional <br />information on coal resources adjacent to.the applicant's existing coal lease and, consequently, <br />• verify the quality and quantity of coal in order to provide data on the potential coal reserves for <br />future expansion of the Bowie #2 Mine. <br />DOI-BLM-CO-S050-2010- 0017 EA Page 1 of 43 May 2010
