PERMIT #: M-1979-102
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: DMC
INSPECTION DATE: September 13, 2010
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) normal
monitoring program. Photographs are included at the end of this report to illustrate the conditions observed during the
inspection.
The Kagie Gravel Pit lies approximately 30 miles east of Hamilton and is accessed from CR 29.
A mine identification sign was observed at the entrance to the site, but the sign is dilapidated and inadequate. The sign
must be improved or replaced. Pursuant to Rule 3.1.12 the Operator shall place at the entrance to the mine site a sign that
is clearly visible from the access road containing the name of the Operator, a statement that a reclamation permit has been
issued for the operation, and the permit number. This has been noted as a problem.
Adequate boundary markers were not observed during this inspection. Pursuant to Rule 3.1.12 the boundaries of the
affected area must be marked by monuments or other markers that are clearly visible and adequate to delineate such
boundaries. For 110 limited impact operations the permit boundary is considered the affected area. This has been noted as
a problem.
Two fuel tanks, one containing unleaded fuel and the other diesel, were observed in the southwest portion of the parking
and equipment storage area near the scale house that lacked any secondary containment. This has also been noted as a
problem in this inspection report.
The current financial warranty amount of $5,774.50 held by DRMS for this site, which was calculated in July, 1994, was
based on a maximum amount of 5 acres unreclaimed at any one time. The current disturbance observed during this
r
inspection appears to include nearly all of the 9 permitted acres. An adequate financial warranty has been calculated for
this site and the amount currently held is considered inadequate. This has been noted above as a problem.
No other problems or violations were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Bernard Petersen
Cross Mountain Ranch Ltd.
