Both Mr. and Mrs. Farnsworth accompanied the inspector during the
inspection. The North Fork Pit is a 9.97 acre gravel pit located approximately 1.3 miles west of Paonia, Colorado in Delta
County.
The purpose site visit was to inspect the method that was being used to haul material from the south of the river to the
north to the processing facility. A route was observed through the middle of the river from the North Fork Permit to the
processing area located on the north side of the river. This route/road may require a nationwide permit with the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers. The operator was not able to supply a copy of a permit during the inspection. If the operator
has a permit from the USCOE authorizing the tranport of material throught the riverbed please supply the DRMS a copy.
If a permit is not held the opertor must obtain one, if this is the case a nationwide permit must be obtained by the operator
no later than November 15, 2010.
The North Fork Pit was active during the inspection. Evidence of recent excavation was observed. A few stockpiles of
pit run were observed on the pit floor. De-watering of the pit was taking place during the inspection. The topsoil
stockpiles were observed adjacent to the eastern permit boundary and they appeared to be stable.
No noxious weeds were observed during the inspection.
The currently held bond amount of $22,212.00 is adequate at this time.
An electronic copy of this ispection was supplied to both the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Colorado Department
of Public Health and the Environment.
