5.3.3.1 (cont.)
portable gas-powered pumps and flexible piping (hoses) may have to be used to transfer water
back into the system. If there is time to test the water and a low pH condition exists, then
crushed limestone, slaked lime, or kiln dust may be added to the water to elevate the pH. Clean-
up of a granular water softener spill involves simply sweeping the material into a scoop shovel
and replacement in a secure bag. Clean-up of a diesel spill would involve diking (booms or
pillows) the spill or applying floor dry, and wiping the concrete slab with a clean rag. Disposal
of soiled sorbent materials would be in Climax' landfill.
Nearest Clean-up Equipment: A spill kit is located in the SWWPS. Portable gas-powered
pumps, couplings, and hoses are available onsite. Crushed limestone and slaked lime are
available at the TDH and the lime slaking facility. Kiln dust is located at the Mayflower Waste
Water Treatment Plant.
Monitoring: Visual checks are performed daily. Operating conditions are telemetrically
transmitted to the Mill Control Room and a warning light is visible at the SWWPS.
Reporting: Any spill of industrial water should be documented immediately using the "Spill
Incident Report" form (Appendix 1), and given to the Environmental Coordinator. Any spill
which threatens waters of the State of Colorado is subject to the reporting requirements given in
Sections 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 of this SPCC Plan.
56
