Notice of Proposed Decision
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has issued a proposed decision to Approve
Bond Release Application No. 5 (SL-5) for the Keenesburg Strip Mine, Permit No. C-1981-028. The
mine is operated by Coors Energy Company under the provisions of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining
Reclamation Act of 1979. The bond release application was submitted by Coors Energy Company on
February 19, 2010. Coors Energy Company sent a notice of Application for a Phase II partial bond
release for the Keenesburg Mine. The area totals 51.05 acres and includes areas 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 15, 16,
19, 23, and 29. The bond amount requested for release is $120,385.00. CEC has replaced topsand,
established vegetation, and has provided a demonstration that suspended solids contributions to runoff
outside the permit area do not exceed pre-mining levels. The affected area is located in Weld County,
approximately 7 miles north of Keenesburg, Colorado.
Copies of the proposed decision are available for review at the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety office, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado 80203, and at the office of the
Weld County Clerk and Recorder.
Any person who has an interest which is or may be adversely affected may request an adjudicatory
hearing regarding this proposed decision. Requests for a hearing must be made in writing within thirty
(30) days of the first publication of this notice, and shall state with reasonable specificity the reasons for
the request and objections to the proposed decision.
