PERMIT #: M-1985-040
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: PSH
INSPECTION DATE: September 1, 2010
OBSERVATIONS
The Seifert Pit, File No. M-1985-040, was inspected by Peter Hays with the Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety (Division) as part of the Division's monitoring inspection program. Mr. Kent Beach with Seifert
Construction was present during the inspection.
The following are general and itemized observations from the Division's inspection.
The Seifert Pit is located approximately 11 miles south of Westcliffe, CO in Custer County. The site was
previously inspected by the Division on September 29, 2005. The site has an intermittent operation status with
the Division.
(FT-1) Financial Warranty:
The Division currently holds a financial warranty of $40,000, which is adequate to complete the reclamation of
the site based on the observations from this inspection.
(MP) Gen. Compliance With Mine Plan:
The Seifert Pit appeared unchanged since the last inspection. The access road and pit floor were well vegetated
and no recent mining activities were noted. Mr. Beach stated mining has moved to the Boyer Pit and is not sure
when the Seifert Pit would be mined again. A small stockpile of road base material remains in the northwest
corner of the pit floor. No equipment or fuel was stored at the site.
(RS) Reclamation Success:
The approved post mine land use is rangeland. Reclamation activities have not begun at the site. Topsoil
stockpiles are located to the north and west of the pit floor. Evidence of weed control was observed. The site
appeared stable and no erosion was observed during the inspection.
(SM) Signs and Markers:
An entrance sign was posted and permit boundary markers were observed as required by Rule 3.1.12.
No problems were noted during the inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Kent Beach
Seifert Construction
P.O.
