Carnation Mine
The shed at the Carnation Mine has been broken into. The front door is ajar, and the rear door
was ripped open. Nothing of value was observed inside. The building should be repaired and
secured, or torn down if it is no longer needed. Halogeton was observed on the site. Rice grass
is fairly common. Puddles were observed on the top of the dump from recent rainfall. I walked
the entire toe of the dump and did not observe any vegetation characteristic of a seep developed
the waste rock/native ground interface. Lots of four wing salt bush, rabbit brush, and rice grass
were observed, along with halogeton at the toe of the dump. Rilling in the dump looks to have
been from previous years, and possibly slightly affected by recent rains. A nearby settling pond
across the road was full and had thousands of tadpoles in it, indicating that there had been water
in the pond for several weeks.
Figure I: Carnation Mine Entrance.
