Environmental <br /> DECONTAMINATION OF EQUIPMENT USED TO <br /> SAMPLE SOIL AND WATER <br /> To prevent potential cross-contamination of samples, all reusable soil and water sampling <br /> equipment and pumps shall be decontaminated. The field personnel shall set up the area used to <br /> decontaminate soil and water sampling equipment. Appropriate protective clothing will be wom by <br /> the field personnel performing the decontamination procedures. <br /> PROCEDURES USED TO DECONTAMINATE INORGANICALLY CONTAMINATED <br /> SOIL SAMPLING EQUIPMENT <br /> Table BA lists the equipment that will be used to decontaminate the soil sampling equipment. The <br /> specific procedures for decontaminating inorganic contaminated soil sampling equipment include <br /> • the following: <br /> g <br /> 1. Wash the contaminated equipment with tap water to remove the soil material. Follow <br /> with a second wash of water mixed with a detergent, such as Alconox. <br /> 2. Rinse the equipment with clean water, wash with 0.1 Normal nitric acid (HNO3), then <br /> rinse with distilled/deionized(DS/DI)water. <br /> 3. Place the clean equipment on plastic sheeting until it is used again. <br /> After decontaminating all the soil sampling equipment, the disposable gloves and used plastic shall <br /> be placed in garbage bags and disposed in a trash collection facility. At the end of each day, all soil <br /> sampling equipment shall be stored in large plastic bags. <br /> CO2099 <br />
