URS Operating Services.Inc. — ARR for ESklimae
START.EPA Re-ion Vlll Revision: 0 `
Contract No.68-Z-003I Date: 04/1998
Page 15 of37
of 180 ppb. Concentrations of total zinc(2.1,3.1,and 6.1 miles)and dissolved zinc(2.1 miles)were above
the AWQC benchmark of 110 ppb. One concentration of dissolved silver was above the AWQC benchmark
of 2.3 ppb at 1.1 miles.
Water from Tenmile Creek flows into Dillon Reservoir approximately 12.1 downstream miles north-northeast
of the CM NPDES discharge. Dillon Reservoir is a drinking water supply storage for the city of Denver.
The drinking water intake for water stored in Dillon Reservoir is located approximately 55 miles downstream
on the South Platte River at Strontia Springs Reservoir.
In the late 1880s, the fishery on Tenmile Creek was completely eradicated by the impacts of acidic mine
water drainage, smelter effluent and waste from the mining settlements. By 1971, Tenmile Creek was
restored as a fishery by the installation of the two diversion canals by CM,thus reducing acid mine drainage
released to Tenmile Creek. The headwaters of Tenmile Creek have been diverted from historical flow
patterns to avoid contact with site contaminants.
Tenmile Creek is a viable fishery that supports game fish species including brook, cutthroat and rainbow
trout. Production data for Tenmile Creek have not been compiled. National Wetlands Inventory maps have
not been completed for this region but approximately 0.56 miles of palustrine scrub-shrub and forested
wetland frontage were observed and delineated along the first 3.1 miles of Tenmile Creek. Additional
wetlands exist from 3.1 miles to Dillon Reservoir; however, they were not delineated for this ESI.
Summary Table of Exceedence of Applicable Benchmarks From ESI Data
Element,Type of Outfall 1.1 2.1 3.1 4.1 5.1 6.1 7.1 8.1 9.1 10.1 11.1 12.1
Benchmark, and(Value) Miles Miles Miles Miles Miles Miles Miles Miles Miles Miles Miles Miles
Total Manganese,DW— X X X X
RD/SC,(180 ppb)
Dissolved Manganese,.
