URS Operating Services,In — ARR fur ESVCIima
START.EPA Region Vill +
Revision: 01
Contract No.68-W5-0031 Dates 04/1998
Pa:e 8 of 37
6.0 SURFACE WATER AND SEDIMENT PATHWAY
6.1 SURFACE WATER AND SEDIMENT SAMPLE LOCATIONS
BACKGROUND:
Surface water and sediment samples for establishing upgradient values for the Tenmile mining
district were collected from Kokomo Creek(CMCX-SW/SE-B 1),Searle Creek(CMCX-SW/SE-B2),
Tucker Creek(CMCX-SW/SE-B3),Clinton Creek(CMCX-SW/SE-B4), Mayflower Creek(CMCX-
SW/SE-B5), and Humbug Creek(CMCX-SW/SE-B6) (Figures 1 - 4) (Tables 3, 4, and 5). The
highest value for each element in. samples from all upgradient sample locations was used for
establishing a site-wide upgradient value for comparison to the Tenmile mining district.
Upgradient surface water and sediment samples were collected from the east interceptor canal
(CMCX-SW/SE-EI) and the west interceptor canal (CMCX-SW/SE-WI) (Figures I through 4)
(Tables 3,4,and 5). The values for these two upgradient sample locations were combined with the
values for the upgradient sample locations for the Tenmile mining district. The highest value for
each element of all upgradient sample locations(Tenmile mining district and Climax Mine proper)
was used for establishing a site-wide upgradient value for comparison to the Climax Mine proper.
DOWNSTREAM:
Target samples along Tenmile Creek were collected downstream of the CM outfall(CMCX-SNV/SE-
T1),and at every one-mile increment(i.e., 1.1,2.1,3.1,4.1...)for approximately 12.1 downstream
miles where Tenmile Creek flows into Dillon Reservoir(Figures 1 -4). Refer to Table 2 for sample
locations and rationale.
6.2 SURFACE WATER AND SEDIMENT ANALYTICAL RESULTS
The surface water and sediment sample analytical results are reported in Tables 3 through 12.
Laboratory data and validation comments may be found in Appendix C, under separate cover.
75-51119.00
F:\START\CLIMAX\Final.ARR\CLIMAX.TX7.«pd:bas
