Kent Gorham - August 21, 2010 - page 4.
submitted for both scenarios. This information does not appear to be present in the
current application and is not present in the currently approved permit application.
A revised mine plan (Map 3) is submitted with this application. NECC does not intend to
conduct multi-seam mining within the proposed permit boundary. NECC plans to mine
either the Allen or the Apache seam but never both in the same location within this
proposed boundary. In areas where the mine development requires crossing over previously
mined Allen Seam workings, the Allen Seam workings will be backfilled with expanding
concrete. This is accomplished by drilling down and in advance of the mining front to
identify voids. Year one of mining includes driving development entries in the Apache
seam from the slope to the East Portal exhaust shaft and development of the slope bottom
area in the Apache Seam. Once the shaft connection and slope bottom area is complete
mains will be driven to the south in the Apache Seam. Mining panels in the southern
terminus of the south mains by room and pillar with pillar recovery will occur in year 2.
Concurrent to the year 2 panel mining the mains will be driven to the east and to the north.
In year 3, 4, 5 the panels as indicated on the map 3 will be mined with pillar recovery where
possible. Where the Apache seam is too thin to mine it is planned to mine the Allen seam.
This occurs in the northernmost permit boundary and in the southwest permit boundary.
A block of coal with at least a 150ft radius will be left surrounding each gas well.
If you have questions, please call me.
Sine rely,
Ron Thompson, Mine Manager
Attachments as listed under item 1
