Aka reading the Ravi M% the fo&mug are
TRY obrervatiora and comments uaoended to clarify what I believe are =scorn uses Sow and
inaccuracies:
Pages S dt 6:
It was stated that "irrigated hayland aid pastureland are very similar in comp ation in many
uses and may be used into dcaageuble depending on the operator's nerds." This may be true for
some fields that arc trianaged for grass or Snowalfalfs bay, and then also grayed by livestock at
various tires of the year. But there are other instances, quite cannon, when crop fields are
managed wkly as baYW4 particcdarly alfalfa bay. This tatter motion usually occurs on the
better sok and relies on a high kvd of ruanagernart by the operator.
This Revision Docrnrnent repeatedly uses the tersna cxvpland, haylaad, and pastureland almost
interchangeably and therefore fails to make the appropriate distinc dons between these three
agricultural land rases. The following definition add discussion am intended to daffy these
terms add encourage accurate use of them
Cropland: A broad term used to ideatify land which produces an agricultural commodity. But
for United States Departanut of Agricarkural purposes, it is mere specifically used for land that
a manaSed intensively with tMW and other cuitural practices to produce eonmtoditics such as
vegetables, grains, hay, adage, etc. It is co wderad distinct from past rcland in that periodic re-
seeding of a crop is uausily necessary to sustain a high level of pro&wtion..Occesionally, crop
aftermath or residno luny be grazed aka the crop is harvested.
Hayhind: A term used to describe land that is used pruaairay to produce livato& forage that is
ruedhauically harvested and stored for Ltd use. It is considered ampWo, and a high level of
nunag«unt (fentflb:igg, ur*Mhlg, pest control, etc.), with periodic re-seeding, is usually
neoasay to sustain production. As with other cropland, hayland may be grazed at various tunes
of the year depending on the forage grown and the neck of the producer: The cmrmron types of
hay grown in western Colorado include alfalfa, slWfa/grass tnix, and grass (introduced and/or
native species).
TrIWrr+rir...e.e...rr.4.aw"Moaw WMerrMMeeP*"&
+.www.rlr...lr.nMenem.OW.MM, rwEw+op%Vxft4mvkftc .4E@l.N .
Attachment 2.05.4(2)(e) -11 -6
