Relocated access lanes will be constructed with 6" of native sand and gravel from the floor of the
mine and remain in place once mining and reclamation are complete.
The main access to the site will be off of Crystal Springs Road on the western side of the property.
This will require crossing Crystal Creek. Therefore, a small section of the Creek where the road
will cross will be piped and fill from the mining site will be used to build the access road from
Crystal Springs Road over to the mining site.
Mine Schedule
Lafarge anticipates mining and reclaiming the site in approximately 15 years. The table below
outlines the anticipated mine schedule by phase. As previously stated, this schedule is just an
estimate due to the fact that the rate of mining and overall life of the mine is dependent upon
demand and market conditions.
Phase Mine Area (in acres) Projected Time to Mine (in years)
1 11.5 1.9
2 24.1 7.1
3 7.4 2.0
4A 8.1 3.4
4B 2.1 0.6
TOTALS 51.1 15.0
Phase Overview
Initially mining will begin by excavating the aggregate from Phase 1 to create a tailings pond which
will stay in place for the life of the mine. This tailings pond is needed before any aggregate can be
processed; therefore, the aggregate from Phase 1 will be stockpiled on site until all of Phase 1 is
excavated. The aggregate processing plant will be set-up, in the area that will be mined as Phase 3,
and the aggregate from Phase 1 will then be processed. In addition, the rest of the plant site
structures, including the concrete plant, will be constructed west of the aggregate processing plant.
A location for a temporary asphalt plant is also proposed for this plant site area. A portable asphalt
plant will be place on-site if there is a construction project in the area that requires asphalt. Mining
on Phase 2 will begin after the Phase 1 is processed. Phase 2 will be mined in 25' lifts down to an
elevation approximately 2' above the water table. Once Phase 2 is mined, the aggregate processing
plant and proposed location for the temporary asphalt plant will move to the floor of the Phase 2 pit
and (all of the other permanent plant site improvements will remain in place) and mining on Phase 3
will begin. Phase 4A will be a primary storage place for overburden from previous phases;
therefore, the overburden from 4A will need to be moved into Phase 3 to be used to begin creating
reclamation slopes before Lafarge can begin mining Phase 4A. Upon the completion of Phase 4A
mining, the concrete plant and other plant site improvements will be removed from the site and
Phase 4B mining will begin. Following the mining of phase 4B final reclamation will begin.
Cerise Mine
DRMS 112 Reclamation Permit Application
Page D4 of D5
