' The Phase III ventilation plan is a complex circuit involving both series and parallel
arrangement of active stope areas to ensure that sufficient fresh air is provided. Pressure
balance of the circuit will be critical to minimize radon-222 exposures. However,
primary ventilation is the same as in Phase II, with regard to intake and exhaust locations.
Intake air is at the Whirlwind portal and at intake shafts as needed. Two exhaust fans
will be utilized, one at the Packrat portal (A2) and one at the "B" ore zone exhaust shaft
(Cl).
It is anticipated that the primary ventilation airflow and mine total pressure requirements
t will increase with expansion of the operations. This will require either the addition of
similar exhaust fans or the use of more powerful, larger exhaust fans. Control of radon-
222 exposure in the active work areas will be by adjustment of airflow and pressure
regulation. This will be achieved by the use of regulators, air-doors, air-locks, booster
fans, and bulkheads. Inactive or abandoned work areas will be sealed with permanent
bulkheads as necessary. As before, fresh air will be directed to one end of each working
face using vent bag and/or brattice curtains. The air will then exhausted from the other
end, minimizing contaminant exposure of the work crews.
10
