Mining and Safet
ENERGY FUELS RESOURCES
CORPORATION
August 6, 2010 RECEVED
Ms. Angelique Diaz, Ph.D. AUG 0 9 2010
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency GRAND JUNG i 1UN FIELD OFFICE
1595 Wynkoop Street RECL???A DIVISION OF
Denver, CO 80202-1129
Transmittal: Application for Approval of Construction
Whirlwind Mine, Mesa County, Colorado M _? coo 7 , d qq
Dear Angelique:
Attached are two copies of the above referenced application that Energy Fuels Resources
Corporation is submitting in compliance with 40 CFR Part 61, Subpart B for venting and
monitoring radon emissions at the Whirlwind Mine.
Although the mine straddles the Colorado and Utah state line, all emissions during the
initial phases of mining will occur in Colorado. We are copying the Utah Division of Air
Quality as a courtesy, as they have primacy for regulating radon emissions from mining
operations in Utah and we may ultimately need to convert one or more intake ventilation
shafts in Utah to exhaust shafts. We are also copying a number of other state and federal
agencies in an effort to keep all agencies informed.
The Whirlwind Mine is currently on standby; however, we are in discussions with
Denison Mines regarding a potential toll milling agreement with the White Mesa Mill in
Blanding, Utah. Of course, we ultimately hope to permit and construct our own mill in
Paradox Valley, which would also allow us to resume production at the Whirlwind Mine.
Sincere
Enclosures
ank Filas, P.E.
Environmental Manager
Cc: S.
