I have been an employee of Western Fuels New Horizon Mine in Nucla, Colo.
For 17 years. I have lived in the area for most of my life.
This letter is in regard to PR06. I feel the reclamation we have done in the past has been excellent. The
area we have mined is now mostly hayfields. Before mining some of the land was being farmed, but a lot
of it was idle or pasture land because of the inconsistency of the topsoil depth. I know this because I
helped strip most of it. Now the topsoil is evenly spread making farming possible for the entire area.
If Western Fuels does not get this permit, 30 jobs will be lost, not to count all the vendors that supply
the mine. Tax money paid by Western Fuels and it's employees will also cease. Not only will I lose my
livelihood, I will lose my insurance. My wife is battling non-smoker lung cancer and the cost of the
treatments is astronomical. Without insurance the costs will be devastating. So you see, this is not only
my job, it is a means for our health well being. There are others at the mine in the same situation. So
please, consider these factors when you make your decision.
Thank you,
I n Reed '
D n,- (
Mary Reed
