PERMIT #: M-1983-158
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: GRM
INSPECTION DATE: August 3, 2010
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety normal monitoring
program. The Cadgene Pit is a 110c permitted gravel pit located northwest of Redvale, Colorado at the end of 35.00
Road. The operator, M.J. Cadgene accompanied the inspector on site.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12. The
sign is located at the entrance to the site at the corner of HH Road and 35.00 Road where it enters the Cadgene
property. Permit boundaries are marked by t-posts and geological features that are easily identifiable.
The access road to the mine is well maintained. No erosion or drainage issues are observed.
The pit has not changed much since the last inspection in 2003. No new excavations are observed. Material stockpiled
has been used primarily for the Cadgene ranch roads and occasional neighbor sales. No equipment was on site during
the visit but evidence of stockpile utilization was noted.
Stormwater that collects in this area is contained on site and quickly percolates into the pit floor. A few small puddles
were noted but no major retention issues were observed. No erosion or sedimentation issues are noted at this time.
The area has had heavy monsoonal rains in the area and it is noted as having held up well from recent precipitation
events.
All berms at the permit boundaries are noted as being in good repair. No new impacts from stormwater events are
noted at this time.
The entire area in proximity to the permitted site is infested with knapweed. The operator does regular spraying within
the pit to control the weeds. A small patch was noted along the access road and on a stockpile of pea gravel. Care
should be taken to retreat these areas, especially the pea gravel that could be shipped off site.
Revegetation in disturbed areas is volunteer in nature and sparse. It may benefit the operator to start reclamation on
mined out areas to reduce the reclamation liability. If areas are fully reclaimed they can be released under a partial
release while still maintaining the active permit in other areas.
The bond was last recalculated on this site in 2003 at $19,600.00 bond. DRMS will update the bond separately from this
report. Since there has been very little change the update will use all previously noted tasks and volumes.
No issues or problems are noted at this time.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety,
Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
Inspection Contact Address
M J Cadgene
P.O.
